Forest City Chapter 12 -Shock-

-Trigger warning for this post: deals with some abuse-
To summarize: Cobalt's dad is mad at his son and kicks him out of the house. Cobalt's mom is upset and leaves with Daisy. And Hazel takes in Cobalt for the meantime.
"Cobalt! Come downstairs sweetie!" I heard a familiar voice call from downstairs.
I remember bolting down the stairs when mom came home, now...
"You're just going to ignore her everyday, she needs you in her life!" my stepmother argued with dad.
"Then maybe you shouldn't of had her in the first place!" dad raised his voice.
This was all regarding Daisy, my stepsister, she is my dad and new "mom's" daughter, I hated divorce, I hated not getting to see my real mom, and most importantly, I hated having a new sibling.
"What about Cobalt!?" Dad yelled, "he's old enough to be on his own!"
"I know he hates me!" my step mom would always say that.
It's not that I hated her, it's just that she tried so hard to be like my real mom and it only made me more frustrated with everyone around me. Sometimes, it seems, that Daisy is the only person I can talk to. I heard a knock on the door followed by a, "Can I come in, I'm scared?"
I got out of bed, took my headphones off, and made my way to the door. I turned the knob and there stood, Daisy, she looks a lot like dad, but short and young. Daisy is pretty easy to impress and most importantly, she has this bubble of happiness with her at all times, I don't think she can ever be insulted. Daisy ran in and hid behind me, she was tall enough to be able to hug my leg. I didn't want her to be scared, so I picked her up and set her down on the desk chair.
"Now, tell me what's wrong this time?" I asked with a hint of sarcasm, it's not that I don't care, I just know how to ask her what's wrong.
"Dad and mom are fighting again," Daisy said in tears. I hated watching her cry, she just has a look on her face that screams, STOP EVERYTHING. Daisy never cried too much when she was a toddler, but now that she's seven, she has started to get more and more upset about a lot of things. I think it has to do with her getting a better understanding of what is currently going on with dad and her mom.
"I know kid, do you want to hang out in here for a little bit," I offered.
"Yeah," she said quietly, she did the thing where she looks down at her paws.
"I thought you would, I've got a little bit of homework to do, so I might bore you to death," I informed. I really was just helping Monty write our sci fi script, we just got to a good part where Galactor had Super Nova in his base explaining his laughably bad plan to our heroine.
    "Cobalt!" dad called.
This should be good, let me guess, he's going to yell at me again for being in detention. I hobbled down the stairs sending Mac a few text messages. I made it down to the hallway that leads to the front door.
My step mom glared at me and asked, "What did you do at school today?"
I squinted my eyes at her, I used to do this a lot when I was younger, it made people really angry when I did this, I replied, "Dad already told you, I don't know why you're asking me this."
Dad stepped in, "I want you to tell her straight to her face, Cobalt Atlas-"
"You want to know so bad!" I yelled, "I got into another fight! So there, yell at me all you want, but it's not going to change anything!"
I tried making my way to the door, but dad grabbed my arm and raised his voice, "You will not talk to your mother like that!"
"SHE'S NOT MY MOM!" I screamed, I yanked my arm out of dad's clutch and ran out the door.
"COBALT!" dad yelled in return, "GET INSIDE!"
I felt something pull me back inside, the door remained open, dad had grabbed onto the back of my suspenders. My step mom was now weeping and I could see Daisy tearing up at the top of the stairs, she must think we look like a bunch of unstable idiots.
I could tell dad was trying to say something, but he saw Daisy at the top of the steps, she turned around and ran into her room, I could hear the slam of her door. Dad let go of my suspenders and I ran out the door, I attempted to find my footing, but I just fell to the pavement, scraping my knees and tearing my jeans.
"Cobalt! Stay out of this house!" my step mom called.
I glanced up at our neighbours both standing and staring in shock. My eyes began to water and I placed my hands in my hair shaking, I couldn't tell why I was shaking and I don't think I want to know. Seeing Mac's face of horror only made me want to hide away from everyone, I didn't care anymore, everything seemed like such a blur. The only thing I could make sense of was the porchlight shining on my side in darkness of the night.
