Forest City 3 Chapter 14 -Uncle Hubert-

"I introduce to you, Macadamia Summerwood!" dad announced in the hospital room next to mom.

My new baby sister was all bundled up in a blanket in mom's arms. Mom gazed lovingly at her new baby and cooed at her.

"She looks funny," Chester whined, "I don't want a little sister!"

I stuck my tongue out at him and teased, "Why don't you just move out!"

"Oh Clove that's not nice of you to say," Hazel said calmly, she then glanced at Mac, "Oh she's got the blonde hair too!" Mac tried to reach out to Hazel's pearl necklace, probably to just play with it.

"She's been trying to steal a lot of things lately," dad stated, "Earlier she was trying to take a bag of peanuts from me." He chuckled, then placed an arm on mom's shoulder.

"Oh I can't wait to see my baby niece!" Uncle Hubert bursted through the door, "How are ya Clove? Chester?" Hubert was a lot of fun, he always made sure that he was the loudest, proudest squirrel in the room.

"Hubert," Hazel said quietly, then pointed at a sleeping Mac, Hazel gestured with her finger for Hubert to be quiet.

Uncle Hubert was a giant grey squirrel that stuck out to the family, he was the first grey squirrel to have ever entered the Summerwood family and probably the last. I always liked Uncle Hubert, he was fun and had a curly mustache, most importantly he made a lot of food, you could see him grilling in the backyard of his and Hazel's apartment almost every Saturday, having conversations with Mr. Delgado over the fence.

I miss him a lot, more than any uncle we have ever had, which isn't a lot because I only have two uncles, Hubert spends time with Hazel, but now, they only see each other as friends, I guess some things just don't work out in the end.

"I think that Tora may have gone to elementary school with me," I began.

"He seems like the type to beat up fourth graders as a living," Monty replied.

"I vaguely remember a story of a kid in my class calling me Vomit Hair after he watched me puke everywhere in the nurse's office one day... on the first day of school," I continued.

"First day anxiety... do you still get it?" Monty asked.

"Yeah," I scratched the back of my head and replied, "How's your arm?"

"Fine," Monty answered, he didn't seem fine, not at all, not because his arm probably hurt a lot, but for other reasons.

I finally tore the bandage off, "So, about the... situation."

"Situation," Monty raised an eyebrow, then it lowered, he seemed to know what I was talking about.

"I know that I haven't been spending time with you as much now that... you know."

"I know," Monty closed his eyes and nodded, "I was being petty... and jealous."

"You have every right to want to spend time with us... me, I liked going to the library and gossiping about how pretty Cobalt's eyes are and talking about all the crap that went on these past four years, I was kind of hoping that..."

Monty raised both eyebrows now, I cut myself off for dramatic affect.

"I was kind of hoping that after I returned home, that we could go to the library everyday after school or almost every day, I want to spend time with you, I want to have fun, just like the day we met."

"You poetic genius," Monty admired, "I would love to, just, maybe, we can bring Cobalt along."

I smiled, one of those smiles that showed my buck teeth. I almost tried hiding my teeth, but I didn't, I felt good about today, about this conversations specifically with Monty. I glanced at the clock on the wall and said finally, "I'm glad you're okay," I got up and left the room glancing back one more time.
