Forest City 2 Chapter 3 -The Past-
It was roughly three years ago when everything actually happened, it all started, the beginning of the end. A new era of students crashed through the doors of the high school for the very first time. I walked beside Cobalt, my best friend since forever ago. All of us, freshmen, new to a world that was unfamiliar. We all knew each other, but everything seemed to have changed. We all were different, some of us even "matured" if that even ever happened.
"Monty! Cobalt!" A familiar voice called after us, "Let me show you around!"
Cobalt turned to face a student we became friends with through a club, which club you ask? I have no idea which one. We turned to see the twins, two cockatiels, Cobalt and I both were aware of Nymph, the older and much more involved sister, but we never got to know Ajax as well, Nymph's twin brother. I soon remembered that Nymph was helping us during 8th grade at the end of the school year, she helped prepare us middle schoolers for high school. How could I forget her?
"No worries you two, I'm right behind you guys," another voice called from the crowd. I watched our red headed deer friend, Caspian Elaphus made his way through the crowd of Freshmen.
Nymph and Ajax were both Juniors this year and Caspian was a Sophomore. Caspian was beginning to grow some antlers through his head of copper colored hair, most of the students here made fun of him for having such small horns, but he couldn't help it at all.
"How was your summer? You two?" Caspian asked and pointed to Cobalt then me.
"I read 6 books over summer, how about you, Caspian?" I asked in return.
"I didn't read anything, but I ran a lot and I mean A LOT! I'm pretty tired after all those workouts and dieting," Caspian replied.
"Are you planning on joining the track team? Cross Country?" Cobalt asked, he shied away. He couldn't even maintain eye contact with Caspian when we first met each other in 7th grade. Cobalt adored Caspian, but for other reasons, not just because Caspian was an excellent runner, but because every time he looked at Cobalt with those astonishing hazel eyes, Cobalt would let out a whimper then curl up in a ball of embarrassment.
"Well, I was planning on joining Cross Country, but the school decided that they didn't need the team, so I got booted, now I have to join track," Caspian said with the look of they-had-the-audacity on his face.
"So, I wanted to ask the Freshmen what they were interested in doing this year," Nymph ushered us away from Caspian. Ajax began to chat with Caspian about football or something, I couldn't catch what they were saying because Nymph was dragging us to our homeroom class in Mrs. Lanigera's class.
"Oh, Nymph, you've brought some of the students to their classes, good job," Mrs. Lanigera congratulated.
"Yeah, I wanted to ask a few of the newcomers what they wanted to do for their first year here at Forest City High," Nymph continued. Nymph sat Cobalt and I down next to a bunny, a mouse, and a horse.
"Who are these people?" the mouse began.
"I guess I'll have to introduce you to each other," Nymph continued, "This is Bonnie, Midge, and Tony." In that order too! Who knew that these cute looking Freshmen would soon become bloodthirsty Seniors dead set on getting revenge for something they did two years ago. Most people assumed that Cobalt started dating Bonnie when they were Sophomores, but it actually was Freshmen year when Cobalt fell HEAD OVER HEELS for the white rabbit. No, she isn't actually pink, as most students will begin to learn.
"And this is Monty and Cobalt," Nymph said sarcastically, in 8th grade, she acted unenthusiastic, but now she seems like she doesn't care at all for us and if we are going to succeed or not, she continued, "I want you five to brainstorm some ideas for your school year, make it last." Nymph backed up and set a piece of paper in the middle of the circular table that we were all sitting around.
Midge wrote down, school dance, something we were allowed to change later on if we felt. Tony wrote down FFA week and Bonnie sat stumped, just like me, we weren't super interested in anything and felt that most of this would be a waste of time. Cobalt wrote down, speech team because at the time, we didn't have one, now we do, and hardly anyone ever joins or shows up. I wrote down, "bring back the cross country team." Bonnie put a small check mark down next to the school dance option, which that decision may or may not have been out of peer pressure.
"What are these events going to look like? When are we going to host them?" Nymph asked unenthusiastically.
"Well, I've always wanted to host a school dance that is dreamy and unforgettable," Midge butted in, "We should bring back the Spring Fling and the Winter Ball from when our parents were younger!" She always spoke like she was better than everyone else, mainly because as a kid, Midge used to be spoiled, she practically had a silver spoon wedged between her mouse teeth.
Bonnie began to fidget with her hands while maintaining most of her eye contact on Cobalt. I could tell she was nervous because Cobalt was doing the exact same thing. Bonnie and Cobalt would later change Midge's idea their Sophomore year because...
"Freshmen can't attend school dances, sorry, maybe next year you guys can plan out the dance," Nymph said, she sounded quite insincere and dishonest, but I digress.
I could tell just by the looks on Bonnie and Cobalt's faces something between them sparked. It wouldn't take me another few months to 1. realize that Bonnie only found Cobalt attractive and 2. Cobalt only wanted to befriend Bonnie. I've never felt so strongly about a relationship until these two decided that it was a good idea to start a "romance." Cobalt has always been the type to need someone to be around 24/7 and just like Caspian, I felt a sense of betrayal when the two started dating.
It would only take a few weeks for the two to decide that it was official. Like every high school (and middle school) romance, the first day or so always started out cute, then you started to see the many flaws, and then fighting would happen, and breakup, rinse and repeat that for 6 years and you have, what I call, a cesspool of teenagers with raging hormones and tons and tons of relationship problems. With Cobalt and Bonnie, everything seemed perfect, apart from the fact that Cobalt still had feelings for Caspian, which only worsened his feelings for Bonnie. After a while, he started to downright ignore all of his friends and he even ignored Caspian. What Bonnie did next, truly was a statement on how this relationship was a mess. It wasn't until next year when it all started to fall to pieces...
