Forest City 3 Chapter 10 -Mac in the Box-
Hazel sat at the dining room table, sipping some chamomile tea, she always drank some at 9:30 PM and usually finished at 9:35 PM to the t. I continued to rummage through the box of old things. This box had contained so much history, I wish it could be shared with everyone, maybe it would clear things up, maybe it would make matters worse.
"Why don't you share all of this with the town?" I asked.
"Oh, it would only make matters worse, you know," Hazel replied.
That's when I had a great idea, I suggested "Why don't you invite all of your old friends for tea then."
"Mac, I don't know, seriously," Hazel said, then sipped her tea.
I found an old yearbook, a few awards from school, and a picture of my grandparents when they were younger, there was also a young Hazel and dad in the picture too.
"Oh I was four when that picture was taken, your dad was only two, he had the bushiest tail back then," Hazel said in delight.
I rummaged through the box a little more, there was a picture of the whole family tree, I smiled a little, it hadn't been updated since the '80s, but it still was accurate to how our family looks now.
"I've been meaning to ask you if you have seen Clove's diary around?" Hazel asked.
What do I say? I don't even remember when I read it last or where I put it! "I'll look for it around, it could be anywhere," I replied. Stupid! Stop lying to people!
"I was planning on taking it to her someday or giving it to you," Hazel continued, "Oh! What if I just invite her over!"
"Yeah! And you can invite all of your friends over too." That last part was silent, but I was totally on board with having my sister come into town and maybe she can clear things up with dad. Dad. I glanced down at the bottom of the box, a picture of him and mom was at the bottom of the box, this must have been a recent picture, as mom appeared to be pregnant with Clove and Chester. A tiny date at the bottom read October 2, 1997.
Suddenly, a reunion sounds like fun. Maybe, I'll surprise Hazel.
