Forest City Chapter 16 -Vigilanties-
The day before Bonnie's birthday party or as some may know it, Mrs. O'Hare's friendly get together was a wild and contagious day. Bonnie sat at her lunch table gawking with her friends about the dress she picked out and how she was going to turn eighteen. Many of us never caught the infectious disease that spread through the school like wildfire. For the past week, Bonnie handed out little pink envelopes that stated when and where her birthday party was. The fun and hysteria caught up to almost everyone who wasn't invited. Screeching in the girls bathroom, laughter at those who weren't invited, jealousy stirred through the school like a whirlwind spinning rapidly and quickly reaching unimaginable rates of speed-
"Monty!" Cobalt shouted in my "ear."
I felt my feathers perk up on the top of my head, I quickly smoothed them down, then straightened my glasses.
"It's time to go to next period," Mac replied.
How sad, I wasn't invited to Bonnie's party, but I had my own vigilanties, Cobalt Atlas Lupin, my closests ally and good friend, he knew all about Bonnie, everything anyone would need to know and my other ally Macadamia Summerwood, a good liar and an excellent manipulator. I walked beside Cobalt through the halls of Forest City High School, I had Advanced English after lunch, a college level class, and as for Cobalt, he had English 102, lucky for him, he barely passed English 101 last year because of his father's harsh grading. I watched him sneak into Mr. Bovidae's class and we went our separate ways as I stepped inside Mr. Fischer's class, he had graduated from some pristine college in Forest City and was quite wealthy himself. It was an honour for him to teach at our high school and only the top students got into his classes, one of those students being Bonnie.
"Monty! My top student," Mr. Fischer said in surprise.
I nodded my head cooly in return and replied, "Aw thanks." Every teacher has a top student, in my case, I was always the top student, not only because I got straight A's, but I also was involved in almost every activity, besides sports. As a bird I find it quite frustrating that they won't even let me hold a put during golf class. It's like I'm some freak who can't play sports because, 'I'm not good enough.' I used to play sports back in middle school, my favourite being football, they made me wear a ton of gear, which ended up slowing me down... and ultimately losing every game. After that, well...

"I'm trying my best guys," I spoke, "It's not like I can't help it."
"Yeah! Well you cost us the game!" they would always reply, "We have lost our winning streak because of you.
Every night after every game, I would come home with a smile on my face and a participation trophy in hand. Now, they are trying to get rid of those, even though, it always made me happy when I received one.

Now you should see the looks on those kids faces when I get nothing but straight A's in all of my advanced classes and their still Sophomores stuck in Algebra 1! Ha! I made my way to my seat at the front of the classroom, Bonnie wouldn't be able to bother me because...
1. There is A LOT of people surrounding Bonnie, due to the plague.
And...
2. No one EVER sits near me, unless it's test day.
I found my little area of solitude to be quite calming, no one wanted to be near me because, "I was the weird kid," unless it was test day, but even then, most teachers yell at students who don't sit in their correct seats. I find that teachers tend to be perfectionists, but I don't blame them. The bell rings and everyone rushes to their seats. Mr. Aguila started his lecture on the vocabulary words we would need to memorize for our upcoming novel we would start reading as a class. I spent most of my time reading, so I already knew what all the words were and what they meant. I think I might just spend the weekend at the library "researching."
Secret is, I'm meeting someone at the library on Saturday morning before Bonnie's party which started at 1:30 PM, at the exact second. Mrs. O'Hare has quite a history in the town and I wanted to read up on it, her great grandfather came here from a far away country back in the 1700s and I wanted to learn more about how they took over the town and what not...
6th hour came and went, nothing super exciting happened and nothing ever will in most History classes. History of Forest city was a new class that the high school implemented just to give us another reason to take a stupid class we didn't need to take and also, I had taken the classes and passed them all with easy A's.
I know it sounds weird, but I'm not stalking Bonnie, I'm just collecting data... okay I guess I'm sort of stalking her. It's mainly because I want to make sure she's not talking bad about Cobalt and making up lies about what really happened at the Blue Moon Ball... speaking of which...
Monty is instantly my favorite narrator. The monologue gives the chapters a lot more of a relaxed sense of pacing and a feeling that the prose might begin to cover things in much more depth than prior. It also serves to differentiate him from Cobalt and Mac. Hope to see future narrators switch things up like this!
