Forest City Book 5 Chapter 15 -GSA-
Midge’s blue eyes peered over in our direction. I assume she was jealous of Cobalt for getting the lead. So I asked, “How did Midge take it?”
“Not well, but the play has two leads and you can guess who the other lead is,” Cobalt began while grabbing a tray from the lunchline.
I had forgotten my lunch today, so I had to get the school lunch instead. I continued, “What is it about?”
Cobalt sighed, “A more basic option this year, the director decided on Romeo and Juliet.”
“Really!?” I said with disappointment.
“It was the only thing the school could afford,” Cobalt continued.
“I just thought that they would go all out since this is Midge’s last year and she’s constantly been the lead,” I rambled.
“I never asked if you were interested in any activities,” Cobalt quickly changed the subject.
“Oh,” my voice trailed off as we exited the lunchline, “You know I haven’t really thought about it.”
“Thought about what?” Monty asked, “thought about the jam on your shirt.”
“Shoot!” I shouted as I glanced down at my white shirt. Raspberry jam smeared all over my waist where the tray had been resting.
“I’ll grab some napkins,” Cobalt offered, “Monty, tell them about all of the spring clubs and activities.”
“Oh?” Monty began, “Well we have the play, I’m sure Cobalt told you about that, then we have stage crew, which is where I’ll be, and all of the sports.”
“Are there any other clubs that are returning or year round?” I asked.
“There’s always a student council, run by Bonnie, of course, art club, speech team, Chess club, Film club, STEM, and I can’t remember any that you would be interested in,” Monty continued, “OH! Archery club too!”
“Do you have a club for people like me?” I asked.
“People like you…like farming kids, or trans kids,” Monty said while trying to gather his thoughts, “Like a gay straight alliance?”
“YEAH!” I shouted, “Exactly that!”
“Who do you think would join, if you don’t mind me asking,” Monty requested.
“Well, first off, you and Cobalt, Toni…Bonnie…” my voice trailed off with a bit of melancholy, “So not a whole lot of people.”
“You’d be surprised how many people would join something like that though,” Monty reassured me.
“I’m not sure,” I began, “Back at my old school we didn’t have anything like that. All of the kids that wanted a gay straigh alliance unofficially made the art club their GSA.”
“Did you join?” Monty asked.
“I didn’t,” I said looking at my tray of food.
Cobalt had returned with some napkins and asked with enthusiasm in his voice, “Anything you’re interested in!?”
“Not a whole lot,” I replied a little disappointed.
“Oh,” Cobalt replied, then suggested, “You can always make a club.”
“Monty gave me the idea of forming one, but I’m not sure,” I said while munching on a piece of toast.
“Forest City’s first GSA,” Monty blurted out.
“A GSA?” Cobalt’s voice trailed off, “Wouldn’t your dad be upset?”
“I don’t think so, I don’t really know how he feels,” I began, “I think he supports me, but it’s been confusing.”
Cobalt rested his hand on mine and reassured me, “Do it anyway, besides you’re like what 17?”
“18,” I corrected him, “Even if it is a small group of people, it’ll be one good club.”
Cobalt smiled.
