Forest City Book 5 Chapter 13 -Plans-

Cobalt waved at me as I stepped inside of Hazel’s house, I took my shoes off at the front door and set them aside.
“How was the library?” Hazel began.
    “We didn’t go,” I replied.
“Oh…” her voice trailed off, “well where did you go.”
    “The mall…” I answered quietly, “Clove’s.”
“You went to Clove’s!” Hazel said in surprise while her brown eyes widened.
I pondered on what to say, but finally decided to break the question, “Did you know she was living in Forest City?”
“I did,” Hazel admitted, “I was going to tell you when the time was right…because of your father.”
It took a minute for this all to make sense with me, I wanted to be angry, but instead I understood why she would keep this from me. Dad would have freaked out if he had known I was talking to Clove or that I was going to her house.
“Cobalt did ask me if it was alright for you to go over to Clove’s house,” Hazel replied.
“And you said yes,” I returned, “I just wish that I could have gone over to Clove’s earlier this year or at least during the first semester of school.”
“I know, but now you have the rest of the school year and probably summer to see Clove,” Hazel replied, “Besides, I want to know if you have any plans for Valentine’s Day.”
I hadn’t thought about Valentine’s Day and it was only three days away. I answered simply, “I’m not sure…maybe it's a surprise.”

“It looks great Cobalt,” Clove began, “I’m so glad that you let me work on this too, you know.”
“They are your sibling,” I replied, “I can’t wait for them to see it.”
“And I am so glad to finally see you put your art on something legally,” mom returned.
“We should sign it!” Safiya blurted out, handing me a paintbrush, black paint splattered all over my shirt, “Sorry,” she finished.
“It’s not the worst thing that’s been on this shirt,” I replied while wincing.
“What, is that the shirt you wore when you got in that fight,” mom responded.
“No, that one had too much blood on it,” I replied while signing my initials on the bottom of the mural.
Clove wrapped her arm around my shoulder and pulled me in for a bit of a bro hug. She said, “Sure reminds me of you two as well.”
    It really did…
(Note for the comic, that last line will be a small panel as we get a view of the four all staring at the mural)
