Character File: Bonnie O'Hare 3/3 -The Finale-

CW: I swore
Shield your eyes, it is time for some of the ugliest designs in Forest City history!!!!!!!

Incarnation 4: 4!? What!? But you already did 4 and 5...actually I didn't, you see, young grasshopper, I kept this one for later, it actually was designed on October 14, 2020, 3 days before Incarnation 5. This is probably the hardest design to talk about. You see, I designed this version of Bonnie without really taking a look into her character. I mostly got inspired by previous designs and took elements that I thought were cool. Apparently, polka dot stockings are really ugly, but this sketch is the most pleasing to look at, in my opinion, I wish that I had stopped here with the nasty design, but this was up to my standard for the time...THIS!?!?1?!? The problem children with this design consist of: the pose, the silhouette, the facial expression is not selling it for me, the scrunchie, and the tail looks tacked on, it always does, even in the new art. Despite this merely being a sketch, it is the main problem for the future designs, which are more a color problem than anything bare bones like the sketch. This sketch is a crime against Forest City and took me on a decade long losing streak (that was sarcasm).

Incarnation 7: Sorry the quality is butts, I had to get this from Instagram, so you know...I'm not entirely sure when this drawing was done. The post says March 28, 2021, but that doesn't sound right and I'm pretty sure that the post was updated. I would say that the digital art was done a few days to a week after the sketch. I usually am pretty good with color, but OH BOY! The color is shit on this one, I thought this pink on pink design was great and didn't take value into consideration, BIG MISTAKE! I don't even know how I would fix this one...but I tried...oh I tried. I also think that the outfit sucks. In reality, the hair, the fur, and tail are fine. It's just that the clothes are not in favor of the drawing, her design is stiff and her legs make her look like she is floating, there is no weight. This design was doomed from the start...perhaps it was the background and the eyes though. Canonically, Bonnie's eyes are described as a piercing, bright green. So I, a dumb teenager decided that a nasty ass yellow green color would suit this already disgusting design. The bright, saturated yellow green, just doesn't work for this cool and warm pink color scheme. Something just wasn't working for this character, not even the polka dots could save this drawing...

Incarnation 8: I very stupidly decided to try and recolor this nasty ass Bonnie design, but it was a lost cause. First off, the original line art and pose needs to be thrown out. The recolor was finished on August? 3rd? 2021? Looking back on this, I could do so much better a whole year later. And I have. I thought, back then, that I had to follow the rules of art and that meant I was following color theory, when Forest City doesn't follow the rules, it never has, I don't follow any rules, I just follow my own. It's not that I hate color theory, but when it infringes the quality of a drawing, I'm breaking the rules, especially if it is ugly in my eyes. The pastel colors are an interesting choice, I don't hate pink in this image as much as I hated the pink in the last image, but the cool toned pink doesn't feel right. I still think the green was the problem, I tried to make is a blue green, not like Monty's eye color, this is a tip that I have picked up from recent designs. The hair clip from all the way back in Incarnation 6 now shows up and is broken. :0 the symbolism. I am so glad that I retired the old, ugly patterned backgrounds and the weird silhouettes behind the characters, it was a lot visually and the color choices were ugly. Even the old drawings of the three have this problem (this opinion is outdated). I was too embarrassed to post this recolor on Instagram.
Incarnation 9: I'm including the sketch because I can. This one was finished on July 1, 2022. I'm so glad that I finally updated that nasty ass Incarnation 7. Finally, I have a satisfying design for this character. I am so proud of what I could accomplish in one day of drawing. The silhouette, the pose, the outfit, her eyes, the lack of polka dots, the '50s aesthetic is just pitch perfect. I like that this design translates to Bonnie, or at least her parents more old fashion outlook on life. Bonnie's clothing more so resembles the youth of that time, but is from a rather outdated time, heh. I like that she wears pearls, a sweater that is cropped at the sleeves, and the heels, which I still cannot draw right. The colors are a lot more nicer to look at, I tried to go monochromatic with it, her eyes being the most saturated color and the only thing that is not monochromatic. I like that the colors are more muted and not that bright, Barbie pink. I was so scared to have this mean in pink character borrow from other color values and look like a natural bunny that I lost sight of what makes a good character design work. If I had to complain, which this is more of a recent problem, the arms are too long, but that has been a problem with other designs like (spoilers) Hazel and Tora.

The next character file will be on Midge Lightfoot and will not be as ambitious as this one.
