Forest City Book 5 Chapter 1 -Sincerely, Clove Summerwood-
Diary entry: 12/19/06
Mac's fourth birthday was today, I'm so glad my little sister is growing up, maybe she is growing up too quickly. I hope that she enjoys all of her presents and especially loves the crayons I got her. I like when she draws things because, while they may not be great and mostly are a bunch of scribbles, I really appreciate all of her drawings.
The other day she drew me a picture of a tree that was being destroyed by one of the tractors on the farm. It was a very horrific sight to see in real life (mostly because dad almost hit the car with the tractor). I enjoy Mac's drawings though, I really do. This tree drawing is a funny little reminder for me that dad shouldn't be trusted with a tractor near a car and a tree.
Mom made sure to put the date that Mac drew the tree in the bottom right corner. She told us this evening some interesting news-
-"Clove, Chester, Macadamia, come downstairs, your mother and I have a surprise," Dad called for us.
Chester followed me as we walked down the hallway and headed towards the stairs. The light wooden, paneled walls had many pictures of family members littered across the walls. Most notably was the pictures we took every year of our household; we always took the pictures on July 20th and I don't think that Mom and Dad were planning on stopping the tradition. The worst part was the clothes they forced us to wear, I was always found in a pink lacy, Sunday dress and most definitely looking pouty.
As we made our way down the old wooden stairs, I noticed Dad had Mac in his arms and she was giggling because Dad had got her nose. I sat down at the kitchen table, which was also wooden, and waited for Mom's announcement. She had gotten out a baby bottle, a blanket, and some baby toys.
Chester groaned, "Not another one."
"Well, it's a little more complicated than that," Mom began, "You see..."
"Twins!" I practically yelled.
"Yes, twins," Mom also groaned, "I was hoping that you would have let me finish my sentence dear."
"Oh she's just excited," Dad reassured Mom, "Aren't ya' Clove?"
"I'm more than excited! I am... uh... is there a better word than excited?" I asked.
"You're ecstatic?" Mom corrected me.
"More Sibbings?" Mac questioned, then giggled.
Dad smiled in reply. Mom just sighed.
-So I guess we are getting new siblings now. I can't wait to meet them. I remember how excited I was to meet Mac. I just hope that she enjoys having siblings just like me.
Sincerely,
Clove Summerwood
