Forest City 4 Chapter 7 -Caspian-
I stood still at the fence waiting for a response from Monty. A long legged deer brushed passed me to grab what was in the mailbox.
"Cas! You're friend is here," the long legged deer shouted from across the house, she stood there awkwardly and Caspian met my gaze, his hazel eyes met my blue eyes.
"Gwen, can you leave for a minute," Caspian requested he sat on the porch with a book in hand.
"Wasn't gonna stay little brother," Gwen shouted back at him and disappeared in one of the rooms of Caspian's house.
"Isn't she a pain in the neck?" Caspian joked.
"You're almost as bad as her," I sneered jokingly.
"Oh how funny," Caspian shot back.
"Yeah, and almost as bad as me," I added coolly.
"I didn't mean to do that," Cas shot back quickly, he seemed more nervous than usual, last time he was like this was on finals week, his last year...
"I couldn't have done it better myself," I jabbed back at him.
"Kid had it coming, you don't mess with birds," Caspian replied.
"Yeah, especially that one," I added.
"Where were you? You said you would stay with him so he wouldn't get hurt like that!?" now Cas was raising his voice.
"He screwed up okay, I can't always be there for him," I snapped back.
"What happened between us..." Cas responded with a hint of melancholy, "I heard everything from Monty."
"I know, he... he messed up this time," I added, then joked, "at least it wasn't me," a hint of melancholy trailed off in my voice as well.
"Hey, I want you to know that I forgive you, it may have taken a while, but I couldn't have stayed mad at you forever, it would cannibalize us both," Caspian added, we both sat down on his porch steps. Cas asked, "So who's this partner you had the guts to tell you liked." He punched my arm lightly.
I smirked and said, "Well, you would like them, they are the best person I think I've ever fallen head over heels for," my head rested lightly on my hand.
"Yeah right, I doubt you can fall in those boots, they're as sturdy as a mountain," Cas joked.
I laughed a little and added, "Monty tried to take them away from me..."
Cas relaxed and put his arm around my shoulder, he continued, "I know that it may seem like the whole city is trying to devour you right now, but you can't keep holding grudges on everyone... people change, and you will forgive them in time, I'm sure Monty was just trying to do what was best for all of the friends."
I stood up and towered over Caspian and added, "Or he was just doing it for himself."
"Cobalt," Caspian began again, "Just give it a try, I know it's been hard with the... well... you know, but maybe it is a good thing that your mom has started counseling with you again."
I sighed, "Maybe you're right," I glanced at my phone again and began walking home, I turned around and said, "Later dude."
