Forest City 4 Chapter 4 -Compromise-
I just hope that this party goes well, I thought to myself as I hopped into mom's car.
"How was your day," mom started.
"Fine," I replied quietly, then added, "I'm planning a welcome-home party for Mac."
Mom's ears pricked up and she replied with, "That's good," she didn't look super excited about the idea of a party.
I asked quietly, "I was kind of hoping you could come too."
"Oh," mom's voiced trailed off, "I'll have to see, I don't know if I have work."
"Hazel and I were thinking of getting you all back together again..." I added quickly.
"Cobalt, sweetie, I don't want to be around those people," mom's tone shifted.
I sighed and just stared out the window, we drove through main street, the busiest place in all of Forest City, possibly the loudest too.
Mom chimed in, "You're almost out of school now, all grown up... right..."
"Yeah, whatever," I replied. Whenever people would remark about how old I'd gotten I would always tune myself out of the conversation. Oh, it sure is impressive that I reached age 17 already, but it doesn't matter because sooner or later I'll turn 18 and be kicked out and have to live on my own.
"Well, we're almost home," mom tried to add more to the conversation, she then reminded, "Tomorrow you have a counseling appointment."
"Great..." I trailed off.
"I know that you don't care too much for these appointments, but you need them, I'm doing this because I care about you... and your father does too," mom added, "Can you help haul in groceries, please?"
If you cared about me so much then why did you leave me, I thought to myself, I'm sure she had a reason to doing that... NO! Why am I trying to justify this... oh whatever... I grabbed one of the brown paper bags from the trunk and made my way to the door.
Mom fiddled with the keys at the door, she continued, "Remember that one time I brought you on my show?"
"Yeah, what about that?" I asked.
"How would you feel about doing that again?" mom offered.
"Back then I was little... I don't want to do that now!" I reminded her.
"And I don't want to go to the party," mom made another addition to her comment.
I set the groceries down on the island and retorted, "So?!"
"In the government, which they should be doing to be honest, they form a compromise so both parties are happy-"
I interrupted mom, "I really don't want to do this!"
"I know, but I have a feeling you want me to do this for you and your father, and Mac, you know, I really am starting to like them more," mom replied with a hint of victory in her voice.
"So you will go to the party?" I asked.
"Only if you go on my show," mom replied with a hint of laughter in her voice, she then got serious, "I know how much you like acting and I think you could use a little bit of REAL experience."
"Can we please stop with that reminder!" I groaned.
"What? It is funny," mom opened the wound, she made her way into the living room and grabbed a scrap book off the shelf.
"Please don't get the pictures!"
