Forest City 3 Chapter 9 -Family Secrets-
Hazel picked me up from Mrs. Lupin's house that night, I wanted to know a little more about what happened between their friend group back in '87. So I asked...
"It really isn't that concerning," Hazel began, "I don't think you would be that interested in knowing."
"I'm just curious how all of you split up and began hating each other," I responded.
"I don't hate Lovell, I just-"
"YOU'RE JEALOUS!" I yelled out loud.
"No, Mac, she never actually was interested in Conall, they weren't a good match at all," Hazel replied, then went silent, "I always felt that way about my brother and... your mother."
"Do you mean that they are bad for each other?" I questioned.
"Your father is very invested in his farm and well, I just wish that he would let go for once, take a break," Hazel said while pulling into the driveway, "he always wanted Clove take over the farm some day and be a hard worker-"
"But things changed," I said while we both walked to the front door of the apartment, the porch light above shone brightly, I could hear Mr. Delgado snoring from across the fence.
"Exactly," Hazel said while unlocking the door to the house, "would you like to continue going through some boxes downstairs.
"I'd love to," I said with a hint of melancholy.
"Oh, dear, I know, it's sad to think about all the crazy things you've been through, but winter break is around the corner and you'll be out with your friends throwing snowballs and making snowmen."
"That's the thing though," I replied, "I've been having some problems with Monty," I was halfway inside the apartment and halfway on the porch, a chilly winter breeze rushed up my spine.
"Oh! Make sure to shut the door, you'll get a draft in here," Hazel said while putting her coat and mine on the coat rack. Hazel then walked down the hallway, I shut the door, she disappeared into what I believe is the laundry room, and came back out with the same box we went through earlier in the fall. This was the same box we went through before Cobalt came to stay with us.
All I can say is that Forest City has made me want to do more lately, be remembered for something, and not shoved in a box hiding away in the laundry room. I want to be someone.
