Forest City Chapter 17 -The Nightmare Birthday Party-

I begrudgingly straightened Cobalt's tie, my perfectionist of an aunt wouldn't let us in until everything was PERFECT! I glanced around Bonnie's yard, a fountain sat in the middle of a circular driveway, which was cobbled, and had many cars driving around it. I watched a few high school freshman wading in the ponds practically, they most likely were searching for gold coins because if it isn't obvious yet, BONNIE IS RICH! She lives in a literal mansion the size of... like... a castle! The mansion was large and wooden, there were huge windows that were highlighted by the gold lighting from inside the mansion. The house practically towered over us, Cobalt hesitated at the door for a few seconds then stepped inside after making brief eye contact with me.
The inside is so much more grand than the outside! Large staircases led up to some unknown places upstairs. This was only the foyer, the entrance, of the house. A large red carpet led up to the first flight of stairs and the foyer was littered with many tables that had food stacked up on displays. The house felt cozy, but huge! I watched as many guests flooded into the house, it seems like the buzz from school followed into the party. That's when I saw Bonnie, she stood on the flight of stairs wearing a fancy red dress, she looked concerned and sad. I nervously smiled and walked over to the stairs.
"What are you doing- oh wait, you were invited here," Bonnie started as she found her way to the bottom of the staircase, "Listen, we can talk for a little bit, but then I want you to get away from me."
"Bonnie dear," Mrs. O'Hare called, "Why don't you introduce me a little to Ms. Summerwood!"
I winced at the sound of 'Ms.'
"Right, right, my BESTEST friend in the whole world," Bonnie said through gritted teeth.
Bonnie grabbed my arm and dragged me over to Mrs. O'Hare. I watched as Mrs. O'Hare made a look of disgust as she eyed what Bonnie was wearing.
"What are you wearing," Mrs. O'Hare whispered, "I thought we both agreed that the theme was blue and yellow."
"Well, I wanted to wear this instead, not everything has to be perfect," Bonnie replied.
Mrs. O'Hare made another look of disgust and then a look of sweetness, "Ms. Summerwood is is so nice to see you again."
Bonnie made a glare at her mother and said through gritted teeth, "Yes, it's SO nice to see you again."
I winced after hearing that last part, I could tell Bonnie already wanted me gone.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bonnie had dragged me around the mansion for a little bit before she sat me down in a chair and ditched me for her real friends. This chair was quite cozy, I might just fall asleep on it. I watched as a familiar face sat down in a chair next to me.
"Macadamia, it is so nice to see you again!" Mrs. Aguila began, "Are you having fun?"
"Yeah, not really," I muttered. I felt more bummed out than anything, I've been dragged to a party that I had no interest in and it's all my own fault. I didn't just feel bad for myself though.
    "Something bothering you?"
    "Yeah..."
"Why don't you tell me about it. I'll listen."
Finally! Someone to talk to that may actually understand me. I thought... I hadn't seen Cobalt in a while and I'm not sure he wants to be around anyone right now. I decided to tell Mrs. Aguila about what was bothering me, "Well, I'm not actually Bonnie's friend, you see, I-I lied."
"Is that so!" A familiar disgusted voice spoke behind me, "Mrs. Summerwood you should be ashamed of yourself for lying about such a thing!"
The party went silent and it seemed like hundreds of thousands of eyes were all staring back at me, The Great Disappointment.

  1. The description of the mansion at the beginning of this chapter is probably my favorite bit of prose in the entire story thus far, I really got a good mental image of what this place is like, even if (judging from the next chapter being the last of the entire book) it seems like we won't spend too much time in here. Love the detail of people trying to find gold coins in the fountain too.
